Action on drug crime, anti-social behaviour and nuisance driving

Your Wisbech Neighbourhood Policing Team continues to focus on the priorities identified by local communities:

Here's an update on some of the work that has recently taken place to address these concerns.

Tackling drug-related crime: 

Officers have continued to use a combination of plain-clothed and high-visibility patrols to target those involved in drug-related crime across Wisbech.

This proactive activity has resulted in a number of arrests for drug possession and drug supply offences, with officers seizing both Class A and Class B drugs. A number of weapons have also been recovered during drug-related searches.

Feedback from partner agencies suggests there has been a noticeable reduction in open drug use and dealing within the town centre. To build on this progress, officers will be carrying out dedicated days of action throughout August, targeting known hotspots and responding to emerging areas of concern.

Addressing anti-social behaviour and street drinking:

The team continues to work alongside partner organisations to address anti-social behaviour linked to homelessness, rough sleeping and street drinking.

This remains a long-term priority, with officers focusing on those individuals and locations causing the greatest concern within the town. Partner agencies have reported a reduction in some of the issues affecting the town centre, and this partnership approach will continue as work progresses.

Tackling nuisance driving and car meets:

Neighbourhood officers have been engaging with members of the local car enthusiast community while continuing to address reports of anti-social driving.

Targeted enforcement activity will take place throughout the Wisbech area, focusing on driving behaviours that cause alarm, distress or annoyance to local residents. This includes activities such as excessive revving, wheel spins, burnouts and other forms of anti-social vehicle use.

Where offences are identified, officers will take appropriate enforcement action, including vehicle seizures and, where evidence supports it, prosecution.
